Why choose Allurion's Elipse as your weight loss aid?

3-minute guide to Allurion's Elipse Balloon Program

Day 1
Therapy begins when the patient swallows a vegetarian capsule containing the Elipse Balloon. After an x-ray confirms the balloon is in the stomach, it is filled with liquid via a catheter. The procedure lasts around 20 minutes. A second x-ray confirms the balloon is filled.
Week 1 - Week 16
Thanks to the sensation of fullness offered by the Elipse Balloon, patients eat less. They may also learn to eat healthy meals in smaller proportions. The follow-up with their care team is made constantly thanks to Allurion’s connected scale and app.
Week 16
After four months, the balloon automatically empties and passes naturally without the need for any medical procedure. Patients have regained control over their eating habits and should continue to make healthy nutrition and lifestyle choices for long-term weight management.

FAQ

The balloon is placed in your stomach during a brief 20-minute outpatient visit with your doctor.¹ You will swallow a vegetable-based capsule that contains the deflated balloon. The balloon is connected to a long thin tube. Once the capsule has entered your stomach you will have a first x-ray to confirm the correct position of the capsule. Your doctor will then use the tube to fill the balloon with liquid and then a second x-ray will confirm the balloon is correctly filled. Once the balloon is filled, your doctor will gently remove the tube and you’ll be on your way.
Most people can swallow the capsule containing the Elipse Balloon without any problems. However, if you do have difficulty swallowing it, your doctor can use a thin wire (stylet) to help guide the capsule into place – still without endoscopy or anaesthesia.¹-²
People on average lose between 10 and 15kg over four months of balloon therapy.²-¹²
The balloon is filled with 550ml of water.
Most people can return to normal activity within a day or two. However, some people do experience nausea, abdominal cramping and, occasionally, vomiting after balloon placement. In most cases, your doctor can prescribe commonly used medication to help manage these symptoms.¹³
There are no absolute dietary restrictions with the Allurion Program. However, to make the most of the program and maximize your weight loss and comfort, your nutritionist will tailor recommendations for you, your body and your weight-loss goals.
After approximately 16 weeks, a time-activated release valve on the balloon will open, allowing it to empty and pass naturally without any medical intervention when you use the toilet.³ In rare cases, at the time of passage, the balloon may be vomited.
After your balloon passes, the Allurion Program and the support from your healthcare team continue. This is to help you consolidate your new lifestyle habits and focus on keeping the weight off.

*In rare cases, the Allurion’s Elipse Balloon may require endoscopic or surgical intervention for removal. In rare cases, the empty balloon may be vomited instead of passing through the GI tract.

**Results may vary from one patient to another. A small percentage of patients don’t respond to the treatment.

***As of June 2020

****The Allurion’s Elipse Balloon must be used in conjunction with a supervised nutrition and behavior modification program. Allurion advises a 6-month follow-up program. Its duration is defined by the physician and may vary depending on the physician and patient profile.A
